Love, Makoto, located in Capitol Crossing in Northwest Washington, DC, serves as Chef Makoto Okuwa’s “love letter” to Japan. The Japanese food hall features a mix of sit-down restaurants, quick-grab vendors, a bakery, and a high-end bar. The space spans two floors with 5 different dining concepts, Dear Sushi, Beloved BBQ, Hiya Izakaya, a fast-casual food hall, a café, and 4 kitchens.

The restaurant was designed and built in two phases. Phase One consisted of preparing the interior structure by installing subgrade plumbing for the kitchens and pouring approximately 350 cubic yards of concrete to create a raised slab at street level. Phase Two then consisted of constructing the food hall interior. This one-of-a-kind food hall is considered a new DC landmark dining destination.
